League D has two groups of three, so each side plays four matches rather than six and one team rests on every matchday. A team showing fewer matches than its group rival is not behind on fixtures — it has simply had its bye.

Matchday 4 in Numbers

The 26 fixtures produced 56 goals, an average of 2.15 per match. League A supplied 22, League B 15, League C 17 and League D 2.

Home sides won 12 of the 26 matches, visiting sides won 7, and 7 ended level, 4 of them goalless. The margin was a single goal in 13 matches and three goals or more in 4, and 14 matches produced at least one clean sheet.

The 104 league phase matches played so far have produced 256 goals, an average of 2.46 per match, of which 14 finished without a goal at all.

After 4 matchdays, 18 sides are still unbeaten and 6 are still waiting for a first point, while 3 sides have a perfect record: Portugal, Spain, Switzerland. Every count here is read from the tables above, so a side showing fewer played matches in League D has had a bye rather than a game called off.

How the Nations League Tables Are Decided

Two teams level on points are separated by their head-to-head record first, not by goal difference. Article 15 of the UEFA Nations League regulations ranks tied sides on the points they took off each other, then the goal difference in those matches, then the goals they scored in them. Only if that still leaves them level does the overall goal difference across the whole group come in, followed by overall goals scored, away goals, wins, and finally the disciplinary record.

That ordering decides real positions in these tables. In Group A4, Denmark have the better overall goal difference than Norway but lose the tie because Norway won their meeting 3–2. The same applies to Kosovo over the Republic of Ireland in Group B3. Anyone reading a Nations League table the way they read a domestic league table will get these wrong.

With six matchdays in the league phase — four in League D — a heavy defeat early is carried for the rest of the campaign, which is why the two September windows already matter more than two rounds out of six suggests.

Reading the table: P is played, W/D/L are wins, draws and losses, GF and GA are goals for and against, GD is goal difference — which only decides a tie after the head-to-head criteria above have been applied — and Pts is points.

Sources

Every full-time score was checked against the match reports for that fixture rather than lifted from a single round-up; where a results list and a match report disagreed on a scoreline, the match report was taken as the record. Group tables are calculated cumulatively from every league phase result to date and ranked under Article 15 of the competition regulations, head-to-head first. Fixture dates and kick-off times are read from the published 2026/27 league phase schedule and converted to European local time. Last updated: .
